Inpatient Rehabilitation Facility (IRF) Review Choice Demonstration: How to Prepare

On May 15, 2023, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced the implementation of a Review Choice Demonstration (RCD) for Inpatient Rehabilitation Facility (IRF) services. Starting June 17, 2024, IRFs located in Pennsylvania and billing to the Novitas JL contract, will begin participation in the pre-claim review (PCR) or postpayment review activities associated with this demonstration. CMS plans to expand the IRF RCD to other states within the JL and JH contracts over the 5-year RCD implementation period.
